Hi, I'm Maryke Rossouw
With 12 years of experience in physiotherapy, I bring a unique blend of sports expertise, specialized training, and life experience to help you on your healing journey.
My Journey
My path to physiotherapy began in an unexpected place - the running tracks of Oklahoma. I studied Sport Science at the University of Tulsa, where I competed in track and cross country for the university. Those years as a long-distance runner taught me firsthand about the demands we place on our bodies and the importance of proper care and recovery.
Being an athlete myself opened my eyes to the medical field in a way I hadn't anticipated. I realized I wanted to do more than just understand sports performance - I wanted to help people heal, recover, and get back to doing what they love. This calling brought me back to South Africa, where I pursued my physiotherapy degree at the University of Pretoria (TUKS).
Specialized Training
After several years in private practice, I knew I wanted to deepen my expertise in sports physiotherapy. I completed my Sports Physiotherapy (SPT) post-graduate course, which transformed my approach to assessment and treatment. This specialized training enhanced my diagnostic skills and gave me deeper insight into the psychology of competitive athletes - understanding not just the physical injury, but the mental challenges that come with it.
More recently, I've specialized in vestibular rehabilitation therapy. Dizziness, vertigo, and balance problems are becoming increasingly common, yet there's often a lack of adequate information and treatment options available. I'm passionate about this field because it perfectly aligns with my holistic approach - these conditions affect the whole person, not just one system.
"I believe healing requires looking at the whole person - not just the injury, but the emotional, mental, nutritional, and lifestyle factors that may be contributing to your condition."
My Approach
What sets my practice apart is my commitment to holistic healing. I don't just treat symptoms - I dig deeper to understand the root causes of your discomfort. Whether it's emotional stress, mental fatigue, post-surgical complications, nutritional factors, or burnout, I believe in addressing the whole picture.
Over the years, I've developed a particular love for treating everyday injuries that affect quality of life. Neck pain and headaches have become leading referrals to my practice, often stemming from our modern lifestyle of long hours at computers. I find great satisfaction in helping people reclaim comfort in their daily activities.
For my vestibular patients, I especially love that most exercises can be performed in the comfort of your own home once you understand what to do. Since vestibular therapists are scarce, I offer online sessions to help those who live far from my practice.
Beyond the Clinic
When I'm not treating patients, you'll find me enjoying the things that keep me grounded and inspired. I still run - not competitively anymore, but for the pure joy and health benefits it brings. Over the past few years, I've also become deeply involved in CrossFit and weightlifting, which has given me an even greater appreciation for functional movement and strength training that I bring into my practice.
I love expressing my creativity through art, and I'm always learning something new, whether it's photography, cooking, or tending to my garden.
Nature and animals bring me peace, and I'm always on the hunt for little hidden gems to explore and support local businesses. I believe in the power of good food, good company, a glass of wine to celebrate life and a good laugh to heal the soul.
I've had my own share of difficult times, and I believe those experiences have shaped me into a therapist who can relate to you as a person, not just as a set of symptoms. I'm grateful that you've chosen to trust me with your health journey, and I promise to bring my full attention, expertise, and care to helping you feel your best.
